About

We Make it, Bake it, Grow it.

For our vendors, the Market represents an opportunity to earn a living doing something they’re great at and that they love.  For many of our customers it’s a place to buy groceries, crafts and gifts from the talented, hard-working people who created them.  For others it’s a meeting-place full of good people where they can get in touch with some of the simpler things in life.

At the Thunder Bay Country Market you’ll always know exactly what you’re buying.  Our producers know that happy, confident customers will tell their friends about the Market; they dedicate themselves to answering your questions.  Visit the Vendors and Products menus to the left to learn more about them.

The Thunder Bay Country Market is held Saturdays between 8am and 1pm year-round.  During harvest season we also open an additional weekday afternoon, bringing you the freshest available produce twice a week.

Historical Timeline:

1997:

11 local producers partner up to provide an indoor venue for marketing their goods.  The Market begins operating out of a small barn on the CLE grounds.

2001:

the Market outgrows its premises and relocates to the newer, larger CLE Dove building.

2004:

the partnership gives way to the development of the Thunder Bay Country Market Association as a not-for-profit organization.

Fall 2008:

the Market conducts a Customer Satisfaction Survey.  Responses indicate an overwhelming desire for more indoor space and more Market days.

February 2009:

the Market opens for the year in newly-renovated and expanded premises.

June 2009:

the Market adds Wednesday evenings to the schedule, offering Thunder Bay mid-week shopping.

Today:

over 80 vendors attend every Market day and more join us during harvest season; we’re proud to be the largest producer-based market in Northwestern Ontario.  An average of 6,000 visitors shop for local meats, cheese, eggs, produce, baking, meals and crafts every week.
The Market is a sustainable engine of the Thunder Bay economy, with a real impact of over $5 million on our community.  Membership in the Thunder Bay Country Market Association is open to the public.
