Fabulous Fabric, Classy Clothing!

JoyceSeppala01This week’s feature vendor offers a change of pace. We switch our outlook from a few of our produce vendors to something which has nothing to do with growing vegetables. You guessed it, this week’s feature vendor is the very talented Joyce Seppala.

Joyce and her seasonal clothing collections have been with us at the market for about 6 years. In fact, Joyce herself noted she was one of the first few vendors to invade the upstairs portion of the market building. It was, in a sense, love at first glance. “I knew right away, this building had potential. The upstairs was a beautiful piece of architecture”.

Joyce’s love for clothing and accessory design began early on. Joyce grew up in England which is where she studied Couture fashion. She immigrated to Thunder Bay in the early 70’s and was employed at jobs related to fashion. (She also learned to fish and loves it!)

Joyce has overcome many obstacles since officially starting on her own JoyceSeppala03in the ’90s. All designers have to decide whether to mass produce or not. Her passion and love for her work dictated to her that she would produce small runs, where she can concentrate on the distinct detail of styling, colour, cut, and fabric. Joyce has developed a one-of-a-kind lineup of clothing and accessories that she guarantees are of top quality and unique in every way. Her collections include natural fabrics and unusual textures. Joyce’s latest adventure involves distressing and eco-dyeing her sustainable fabrics to create a kaleidoscope of never-before-seen articles of clothing. As the weather begins to cool, this coming season will bring cozy sweaters with exaggerated cowl necklines, asymmetric cuts in JoyceSeppala02variegated shades of red, grape, teal, and steel, and ‘street-style’ vests for teaming with pants or leggings. From coats and tunics to simple blouses and even amazing wedding dresses, she can guide you. Timeless, unique, one-of-a-kind… these are just a few descriptive words that can be said about her pieces. Joyce Seppala Designs has created a name for itself over the years that keeps her loyal customers coming back for more!
