You may have seen references to H & P Jams & Jellies ’ Peach Pepper Jam in our December Newsletter, where we featured Slate River Dairy’s new Yogurt Cheese on a cracker and topped with this delicious and unusual condiment. While we don’t recommend Peanut Butter and Peach Pepper Jam sandwiches (the jam itself isn’t quite right for that sort of use) it’s become an easy choice on the appetizer shelf, and we think it will be pretty handy in the next few weeks of entertaining and gourmand behaviour. If you’re without a supply of Yogurt Cheese it can be spooned over a small block of plain cream cheese as the centre of a pretty and easy cracker tray, baked with Brie inside buttery phyllo pastry, and – a serendipitous discovery – incorporated into a barbecue sauce that will knock your socks off.
Made with red, green and jalapeno peppers, the jam’s actually got an unobtrusive flavour that’s not overly sweet. The peppers add a smokiness to it without any salt, and the peach pulp gives it body but is only really obvious as peach when you taste carefully, using your nose like a sommelier. We think this makes it wonderfully versatile in appetizer applications, and its colour and texture set it front and centre when it comes to wowing guests.
