Pick of the Crop
We’ve got a “pick of the crop” produce vendor among our stands, and we think he is worth featuring! Our weekly vendor feature this week falls on one of our latest fresh produce vendors, Mark Jantunen of Whitefish Valley Vegetables.
Mark has been with us here at the Thunder Bay Country Market since spring of 2014, and not surprisingly, his produce has become popular in demand. Mark is not only knowledgable in growing and harvesting the produce varieties he carries, but also cooking and storing. He is eager to share his favourite recipes and has featured a few classic, tasty examples over the past summer months.
Mark grew up with gardening as a hobby, and after retuning to Thunder Bay from being out in BC for some time, he took on the decision to restart his hobby garden on a larger scale. And he has put his skills to excellent use over the past few growing seasons!
Mark adds variety as one of our market vendors in the carrots, onions, turnips, beets, and heirloom potatoes he provides our shoppers with. Mark takes his produce farming seriously, and is mainly focused on vegetables that will benefit people when buying for over-winter storage. Quality, peak ripeness and nutrient-dense are terms that Mark uses in describing what he has to offer. When you stop by Mark’s stand, you are choosing healthy, flavourful produce that will guarantee for some tasty cooking!
Mark will be featuring his freshly picked goodness as long as his supply lasts, so hurry and take a look at what Whitefish Valley Vegetables has to offer!
